At the heart of a Maana solution is the Computational Knowledge Graph. This is what enables us to take the Subject Matter Expertise, frame it in the context of Problem Questions and solve them by Data and Algorithms coming together.
Traditionally, data analytics involve starting with data and take a bottoms-up approach. With Knowledge, we take a more human approach. We focus first on the SMEs and how they think about problems. This involves concepts, the relationships between those concepts and also the type of operations we need to perform in order to solve the business problems. So Knowledge means trying to solve a problem, from a top-down perspective. SMEs are essential to Maana's methodology.
The profile of an SME contributing to a Maana solution…
Profile:
Domain expertise in a petro-technical and/or oil & gas business related area
Motivation to have a hands-on involvement in Digital Transformation
Motivation to expand skillsets, not only by learning a new software product, but a new methodology for decomposing problems
Willingness to work collaboratively with data scientists and developers towards creating innovative digital solutions.
Pre-requisites:
Agile training (to be provided prior to engagement)
Maana Platform and Methodology Training (to be provided prior to engagement)
No prior experience in software development and data science needed (both are nice to have)
What's expected from an SME…
Encoding Knowledge
Participating in workshops and being able to articulate and structure business processes in a logical manner. Emphasis is placed on a top-down approach and problems-solving, not on data integration.
Active Role in an Agile Team (Overhead)
SMEs opting for being Product Owners of Maana projects would be active team members of an Agile Team Unit (along with data scientists, developers).
Hands-on Work on the Maana Platform
SMEs opting for being Product Owners of Maana projects will actively work on translating a business problem structure into a Knowledge Model in Maana.
Data Labeling
Many times expert SME input is required to qualify and label data sources to be used as part of Machine Learning algorithms. An SME labeling data does not necessarily need to be a Product Owner or the member of the Agile Team.
